Ghent homelessness policy

Ghent is developing new forms of services and assistance for homeless people. In 2008 the homeless working group (Action 2008-1) set up a number of projects for this group of the population, projects which have been implemented throughout 2009. Future priority actions include:

  • Developing emergency services such as (storage of luggage and belongings, washing machines and showers, daycare and food distribution networks)
  • Increasing housing for homeless families
  • Measuring the extent and nature of homelessness in Ghent
  • Preventing youth homeless in cooperation with relevant agencies
  • Developing alternative forms of housing and accommodation for homeless people
